Standards and specifications are also constantly changing in the testing and approval of domestic ventilation appliances. When commissioning and planning tests, we provide you with the best possible support in deciding which test criteria you should have your devices tested according to.
Standards & guidelines
According to which test standard should I have my devices tested?
There are different test regulations for approvals and certificates in Germany, the EU and internationally. Depending on which type of device you want to have tested and how you want to sell your devices on the market, this results in corresponding test specifications. We support you in planning the right tests for your domestic ventilation units – whether for DIBt approval, for a PHI certificate or for tests according to international standards – and carry them out in close consultation with you.
How do I find the right norm or standard for the test?
Some authorities and funding bodies in Europe only provide their test standards directly to the applicant. In such cases, it is necessary to submit a corresponding application in order to provide us with the test criteria. In all other cases, you can count on TZWL to have the latest standards available and to actively advise you on standards. It is best to talk to us at an early stage so that we can support you throughout the entire testing process. We are also happy to offer you further consulting services.
Standards and test guidelines
Testing in accordance with German Institute for Building Technology (DIBt) regulations
DIBt approval is mandatory for the installation of domestic ventilation units in Germany. The test bodies base their approval on the standard tests, which can be supplemented by the DIBt, even after a test report has been submitted.
The DIBt has individual test programs for each device type. These must be requested from the DIBt as part of the application process.
Testing in accordance with the regulations of the Passive House Institute (PHI)
Certification in accordance with PHI specifications is required for the installation of an appliance in a passive house in addition to DIBt approval. The PHI has its own test specifications for each device variant, the current version of which can be requested from the PHI. The test specifications are not analogous to other test specifications.
Synergy effects from combined measurements are of course taken into account by TZWL.
EN 13141
With the EN 13141 series of standards, there are European test specifications for various types of ventilation units.
ÖkoDesign - the energy label for domestic ventilation appliances
These requirements apply to energy labeling in accordance with EU Commission Regulations 1253 (2014) and 1254 (2014), but in most cases are not sufficient to meet all national testing requirements of the countries, especially in the case of planned appliance approvals or subsidies.
Energy labeling itself is mandatory throughout the EU.
In Austria, depending on the appliance variant, one of the “ÖNormen” from the EN 13141 series applies.
In addition, a listing in the “GET” database is required for subsidies and as part of energy consultations. Additional measurements are also required for listing in this database.
In the Netherlands, the NEN EN 13141-7 and NEN EN 13141-8 series of standards applies.
To register an appliance in Belgium, it must be tested in accordance with the “EPB” specifications. In addition to tests in accordance with one of the standards from the EN308, DIN EN 13141 series, further measurements are required.
International test specifications for domestic ventilation units
In addition to the above-mentioned countries, many other countries have individual regulations for the sale of ventilation units and for possible national subsidies. If your target country is not on the above list, please contact the relevant authorities directly.
We are constantly endeavoring to keep the test specifications in European and other countries up to date. We would therefore greatly appreciate your assistance and would be pleased to receive your comments on testing regulations, approvals and reporting requirements in other countries.
